Ferrari has started accepting cryptocurrency as a payment method for its supercars. Currently, this practice is limited to one country and only three types of assets, but in the future, the number of countries and accepted currencies will be expanded. Enrico Galliera, the company’s marketing director, confirmed this to Reuters in the past few hours. For now, cryptocurrency is available for purchasing Ferrari supercars only in the United States, where the company has initiated transactions in Bitcoin, Ether, and USDC. At the same time, the Maranello manufacturer will not levy additional fees, and car prices will remain the same. Most North American dealerships of the brand have already embraced the new system or plan to do so soon.
After Tesla, Ferrari is also embarking on the acceptance of Bitcoin and other cryptocurrencies as a payment option for its supercars
In the future, Ferrari will expand this practice to European countries and other assets, but it will only be applicable where local laws permit cryptocurrency payments. For example, in China, purchasing a Ferrari with Bitcoin will not be possible. In response to market demand, a new payment scheme has been introduced. According to Enrico Galliera, several customers of the Italian automaker are crypto investors who have made their fortune in this market. Furthermore, it may assist the company in broadening its customer base to include wealthy individuals who are not yet customers of the brand.
It’s worth noting that in 2021, Tesla began accepting Bitcoin for car purchases, with the acceptance of digital coins as payment announced in February. However, this practice was discontinued in May, and Elon Musk explained the decision as a response to the growing environmental impact of cryptocurrency-related activities. We will see if other automakers will also follow the example of the Maranello manufacturer and open up the possibility of purchasing their supercars with virtual currency.
