Since the end of last year, when Fiat officially confirmed that it would launch a mid-size pickup truck in Brazil, the company has been teasing many details of this future model. Between May and June, the Italian automaker announced the name of its new pickup and revealed part of the vehicle’s interior that will compete with the Toyota Hilux, Chevrolet S10, and Ford Ranger. However, recently, the spoilers have stopped, and the Italian company seems to have ‘forgotten’ about its new Fiat Titano. The pickup’s launch has been delayed and is now expected to happen at the beginning of next year.

The delay of the Fiat Titano may also be related to Stellantis’ hectic launch program in Brazil. In addition to Fiat, the group owns the Jeep, Peugeot, Citroën, and Ram brands. All the other manufacturers have launched (or will launch) at least one product in the country in the coming months. With so many new releases, the debut of the Fiat Titano has been pushed further into the future. Another relevant issue is that production is not 100% under Stellantis’ control. The pickup is produced at the Nordex plant, an independent company that also produces for Ford and Kia. So this may have also played a role.

Despite being a new model, the Fiat Titano is not entirely a brand-new vehicle. It’s based on the Peugeot Landtrek, which is also produced in Uruguay and is already available in other Latin American countries. The Landtrek itself is a French version of a Chinese pickup, the Kaicene F70. As for Brazil, Stellantis has bet that the market would be more receptive to a Fiat pickup.

The dimensions should be more or less the same as the Peugeot vehicle. There has been a lot of talk about the Fiat Titano’s engines. Unlike the Landtrek, which comes with 1.9 turbo-diesel engines with 150 horsepower and 35.7 kgfm, or a 2.4 turbo gasoline engine with 210 horsepower and 30.6 kgfm, the Fiat model will have a mechanics more suitable for Brazilian tastes: a more powerful diesel. According to Autos Segredos, Stellantis has opted for the 2.2 turbo-diesel with a power of around 200 HP. The transmission will be a six-speed automatic with 4×4 traction. Manual transmission options should also be available.
