In the past few hours, the management of the Stellantis Melfi plant provided a sneak peek to the labor unions of the first of five models to be manufactured in the upcoming years at the production site. This vehicle is an electric DS, and its production is set to commence next year, followed by a larger model one year later. It appears that the vehicle presented is not the final version but a prototype.
The first electric DS Automobiles, which will be produced in Melfi the next year, was revealed by Stellantis
This is believed to be the electric DS 4. However, images of the new vehicle have not been leaked yet. Nonetheless, it shouldn’t be long before the first photos surface, as the car is scheduled for production starting next year. Following this, the Stellantis Melfi plant will also introduce the electric DS 8. The other three cars that will be manufactured at this factory in the coming years include the successor to the Jeep Compass, Lancia Gamma, and Opel Manta. In the meantime, the labor unions are urging the national government and the Basilicata region to fulfill their duty in safeguarding the companies involved in ancillary and logistics.
Therefore, the Stellantis Melfi plant will continue to play a central role in the future of the automotive group, despite the departure of the Fiat 500X in 2024 and the Jeep Renegade in 2025. The first is expected to be replaced in Fiat‘s lineup by the new 600 and the new Panda. The second, however, is expected to receive a new generation but will likely be produced elsewhere, possibly in Spain, although there are no certainties at this time.
