Stellantis advances in South America

At a meeting held Dec. 4 in Belo Horizonte, Stellantis President for South America, Emanuele Cappellano, presented the first vehicles equipped with Bio-Hybrid technology to the Governor of Minas Gerais, Romeu Zema. Developed by the Stellantis Engineering Center in South America and produced at the Betim Automotive Hub, the Fiat Fastback and Fiat Pulse hybrid models combine biofuels and electrification, representing a milestone for the Brazilian automotive industry.

The launch of the new hybrid-flexible models reinforces the leading role of the Betim Automotive Hub, which is consolidating itself as Stellantis’ global center for the development of hybrid and electric technologies, advancing its legacy with innovative solutions to deliver clean, safe and affordable mobility in South America.

In addition to revitalizing the domestic industry, the launch of the Fiat Fastback and Fiat Pulse hybrids concretizes Stellantis’ efforts in accessible mobility decarbonization. The new hybrid-flexible models combine performance, efficiency, and cost-effectiveness, being the result of national development and the first hybrids designed from a Brazilian perspective, enhancing the competitive advantage of the country’s characteristics and resources, such as ethanol and clean electricity.

During the meeting, Cappellano also presented a proposal for the creation of a working group involving Stellantis, Sindipeças, FIEMG and the Government of Minas Gerais. The initiative aims to attract high-tech suppliers to the state, strengthening the automotive production chain and consolidating Minas Gerais as a strategic region for the development of the automotive industry in South America.

With record investments of R$14 billion earmarked for the Betim Automotive Hub, the largest in the history of the Minas Gerais factory, Stellantis reaffirms its commitment to the future of sustainable mobility. The amount is part of the R$32 billion investment round from 2025 to 2030 announced by the company in South America, which will drive the launch of 40 new products, 8 powertrains and 4 platforms, as well as the development of new bio-hybrid technologies. , innovative decarbonization technologies throughout the automotive supply chain, and new strategic business opportunities.

With this new contribution to the Betim Hub for the next five years, we will carry on the extraordinary legacy of this factory, reinforcing its importance to the economic and industrial growth of Minas Gerais and Brazil,” remarked Emanuele Cappellano, Stellantis president for North America South.

During the meeting, the main milestones of the Betim Automotive Hub, which turned 48 years old in July 2024, were also highlighted. Highlights include: the cumulative production of more than 17.5 million vehicles, of which more than 4 million are exported to 37 countries , and the production of seven models (Fiat Strada, Argo, Mobi, Pulse, Fastback, Fiorino and Peugeot Partner Rapid).

Recognized as a benchmark in automotive technology in the Brazilian market, the Betim plant is one of the largest Stellantis plants in the world. The unit currently has more than 120 suppliers in the region and employs about 16,000 people, representing more than half of the company’s workforce in South America.
